TIS
THE SEASON
TO BE
JOLLY
The historical pioneer village, known as the Mile Branch Settlement, will open its gates for the 21st annual Pioneer Christmas Celebration on November 29, 2002. This celebration is a “back in time “ gala that is held in the fabulous Washington Parish Fair Grounds in Franklinton. The event will last through December 1, 2002.
It is a heartwarming experience from the past when times were simpler and the pace was slower. Individuals used what was at hand to create gifts, prepare food, and to adorn their dwelling for the holiday seasons. It was a time when holidays were truly from the heart.
During this time of the year in the settlement, Christmas is recreated as close to the time period as one can actually imagine. As a person would stroll through the piney wooded area where the Mile Branch Settlement calls home, one can not only step back in time, but establish a feeling for the pioneer era with the joyful music, singing, and aromas of authentic pioneer tastings.
Each building envelops a person with a warm holiday spirit. The Bankston Country Store will feature homemade jams and jellies, sugar cookies, our own fresh Louisiana sugar cane syrup, and hoop-cheese with crackers. In the Johnson Cabin there will be an assortment of handmade gifts and in the barn a Civil War encampment will be hosted with many activities to behold. The other cabins will be decorated with old-fashioned decor. The hosts will be dressed in their Sunday best exemplifying the period at hand for the cabin. The host for each cabin are eager to share heart-warming stories that portray rich history from its past. One can’s help but feel the old fashioned Christmas that was enjoyed by the early settlers.
This is a nostalgic experience for adults and children alike and one a person will not want to miss. This is a wonderful way to begin the Christmas season and the Mile Branch Settlement cordially invites everyone to begin this years holiday celebration with them.
